What are the festival dates?

The festival starts on Thursday 1st August. The event will run into the morning of the 5th August.


Where is the festival?

Praia da Rocha, about two miles south of Portimão, is the town’s main beach, where the remains of Fort of Santa Catarina (Forte da Santa Catarina), a 17th-century fort lie. The festival site is situated in the picturesque Praia da Rocha. We cannot wait to show you the incredible festival site we’ve designed uniquely for Afro Nation 2019.


What are the festival times?

There are festival events running from each afternoon until the early hours of the next day with live performances and entertainment throughout. Full details of the programme and times will be released in advance of the festival. Keep up to date by signing up to the mailing list or following us on Instagram @AfroNation


What age do I have to be?

Afro Nation Festival is an 18+ only event and you will need ID to prove your age to guarantee entry.


Where can I find full set-times?

We’ll keep the website updated with all line up announcements and day by day breakdowns will be available before you travel with full set times in the programme. Keep up to date by signing up to the mailing list or following us on Instagram @AfroNation


Can I go in and out of the festival site every night?

Yes, with your wristband you can go to and from the festival site and in to each venue as often as you’d like.


Are there any birthday packages available?

Unfortunately we aren’t offering any birthday packages at this time.


When will full itinerary be out?

The full itinerary will be out June 24. All ticket holders will be the first to know when boat parties and additional event information is announced.


What happens if I lose my wristband?

Wristbands will only be issued once and broken / lost wristbands will not be replaced. Please look after them!


Are there any tickets left?

Afro Nation festival 2019 has now completely sold out. There are no tickets available at this time.


I haven’t received my ticket yet.

After purchasing your ticket you will receive a confirmation email, your tickets will be sent to you via email 4 weeks before the festival.


Can I upgrade my ticket to VIP?

Unfortunately there are no ticket upgrades available.


What’s included in my festival ticket?

Your festival ticket gets you 4 days access to the festival main stage area and beach parties, VIP tickets include a dedicated area and private bar. *Drinks and tables are not included in the ticket price. Bill & venues subject to change.


How can I change my address?

Please contact your ticket provider directly.


How can I change my booking email?

Please contact your ticket provider directly.


How can I transfer tickets?

Your ticket vendor should have sent you an email with instructions and a link on how to do this. If you have not received this email, please contact your ticket vendor directly.


If I’ve purchased a transferred ticket, do I need the card used to purchase the ticket in order to exchange for my festival wristband on site?

No, if your name on the ticket matches the name on your ID you will not need the card used to purchase the ticket.


If I purchased my own ticket, do I need to bring the card used to exchange for my festival wristband?

No, as long as your name on your ID matches the name on the festival ticket you will not need the card used to purchase the ticket.


I haven’t paid the transfer fee but I’ve given my ticket away. What information would I need to provide them to guarantee entry?

If you have purchased a ticket for someone and their name is not on the ticket, you will need to provide the following:

1 – A signed cover letter from card holder

2 – A clear scan of the card used

3 – A clear scan of passport or driving license of card holder


What do I need to bring to guarantee entry?

Please bring your ticket and a valid photo ID with a name that matches the ticket. See answer above for documents required if your name is not on your festival ticket.


What constitutes valid Photo I.D.?

Photographic form of identification, i.e. a passport or driving licence, are acceptable.


Can I cancel my ticket?

Unfortunately all tickets are non-refundable, we are unable to offer any refunds for tickets no longer needed.


What if the ticket is not in my name?

As long as the person who purchased the ticket is present, you will be able to collect your wristband to enter the festival.


What needs to be on a cover letter from card holder?

A written letter giving you consent from the card holder that matches the billing address of your booking. This needs to be signed and dated by the card holder.


Can you attend the boat parties on general admission tickets?

Yes, boat parties are sold separately.


Where can I find boat party tickets?

Boat party tickets have now sold out.


Can I cancel my payment plan?

Yes, payment plans can be canceled, but no refunds will be given for any payments already received.

Payment Plan Process and Policy.


Payment Plan orders are non-refundable.


Payments will be collected on the 1st of each month from March 1st up to June 1st.


If a payment fails to be collected on the 1st of the month the buyer will have 48h to update their card details and make the payment.


If payment has not been made by 2pm GMT on the 3rd of each month when a payment is due, then tickets will be canceled and no refunds will be issued for previous payments

Where should I stay?

Visit our travel partners Travel Republic, who offer a range of hotels to suit all budgets. Please note due to popular demand, a lot of the accommodation near the festival site has now been booked. We have created a new page of accommodation that covers resorts along the coastline but within a 30 minute drive / bus journey to the main festival site.


Can you camp at Afro Nation Festival?

Camping is not available on site. However we have a range of accommodation including fantastic deals on apartments and hotels. Book through our official travel partner Travel Republic.


How should I resolve an issue at my hotel?

Please speak with your hotel provider directly.


What time is check-in and check-out?

Times for individual hotels/apartments vary, and can be found out by contacting Travel Republic or your accommodation directly.


How can I safely store belongings?

Most of the hotel rooms come with safety deposit boxes in the rooms although some do require a nominal fee for their use. More information is available on safety deposit boxes at individual hotels when booking.

What are my flight options to Portugal?

Portugal has great connections with all major UK airports flying directly into Faro – these can all be booked with our travel provider, Travel Republic.


Which airport should I fly into?

Faro is the closest airport to the festival. Travel Republic fly direct to the airport from across the UK and many European and African destinations.


How hot is it in Portimao?

The average temperature in August is 26 degrees in Portimao, with 10 hours of sunshine.


Where are the best areas to stay?

Portimao has plenty of accommodation options, you can find the perfect place for you with our travel partners Travel Republic.


Where is the festival site?

The festival site is located on Portimao’s main beach Praia da Rocha.


Are there cash machines on site?

There are cash machines across Portimao where you can withdraw Euros.

What currency do I need to bring?

The official currency used is the Euro, which can be bought easily at the bank, the post office or at the airport.


Food and drink – You’re completely spoilt for choice when it comes to seafood in The Algarve. Bacalhau, the national salted cod dish which can be cooked in 365 different ways, is a must-try. The beverage selection includes the national drink aguardiente – a strong fortified wine – while the price of a pint of beer averages at €1,50. Happy days.


Portimao Marina – Located at the eastern point of Praia da Rocha, Portimão Marina (Marina de Portimão) is where you’ll find a host of seafood spots and pizzerias. If you’re feeling active, jets skis are available to hire, with kiosks also chartering small yachts and motorboats.


Lagos Old Town – Lagos Old Town is just a 30-minute car journey from Portimão. Once there, you’ll be greeted with beautiful buildings, such as the 15th century slave market, and cobblestone streets and can get educated in the town’s museum. It’s well worth a trip.


Benagil Caves Tour – In this two-hour guided tour you’ll enter the sea caves by boat and feast your eyes on stunning natural rock formations. Don’t forget your camera or phone as this is certainly an attraction for the ‘gram.

+ Boat Parties


It wouldn’t be a sun-soaked festival without a party on the sea. Boat party tickets can be purchased as an optional extra.

The Boat Parties take place aboard the Boats. The Boats are operated solely by Animaris and the Promoter does not accept any liability in relation to the provision (or non-provision) of a Boat Party or any acts or omissions of the operator of the Boat. You accept that there is a heightened level of risk associated with boat parties and You accept personal responsibility for this.  You will also be subject to any terms and conditions of Animaris.


Tickets for the Boat Parties are sold separately and are not included in the price of a Ticket.  You must purchase separate tickets if you wish to attend a Boat Party and you will be subject to the Boat Party ticket terms and conditions (as applicable).
